For framing work and other areas where microscopes are used, depth of field in combination with resolution is an important factor. Leica has developed a special type of optics for this microscope. The microscope exploits a special feature in how we use our vision. Through development together with the Institute for Neuroinformatics at the Swiss Institute of Technology and the University of Zurich, a special Fusion optic has been developed. The right image provides high resolution in the optics and the left one provides great depth of field. Our brain then combines these images, which results in the microscope seeing more of the object you are working with while maintaining high resolution. The system provides approximately 100% better depth of field than traditional systems and works throughout the entire zoom range.
